Three people shot dead in Copenhagen mall

STORY: Three people were killed after a gunman opened fire in a shopping mall in Denmark's capital Copenhagen on Sunday.

That's according to Danish police, who said they had arrested a 22-year-old Danish man and charged him with manslaughter.

Video obtained by Reuters showed terrified shoppers running away from the mall.

Chief Police Inspector Soren Thomassen said the suspect acted alone.

He said among those killed was a man in his forties and two young people.

He added several others were wounded, some of them in a critical condition.

Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen offered her condolences in a statement.

A ceremony for the the Tour de France cycle race, the first three stages of which were hosted by Denmark, was cancelled after Sunday's incident.

As well as a concert by British singer Harry Styles, according to police.

While it was not immediately clear what the suspect's motives were, police did not rule out the incident as an 'act of terrorism.'

The country's national security agency considers the terrorist threat against Denmark to be serious, with the biggest threat coming from 'militant Islamism'.

Denmark last saw a militant attack in 2015, after a lone gunman shot and killed two people, including a person outside a Jewish synagogue in central Copenhagen.

That gunman was killed in a shoot-out with police.
