More than $140 million in toll rebates are waiting to be claimed by NSW drivers. Hundreds of thousands of drivers still haven’t taken advantage of the government’s $60 toll cap and are missing out on the “critical” cost-of-living support.

The NSW government introduced a $60 weekly toll cap a year ago. The scheme allows motorists who spend more than that capped amount to claim back up to $340 each week as a rebate.

Since the cap was introduced, $75 million has been paid to motorists but the state government revealed that the total up for grabs is more than $215 million. That leaves $140 million worth of rebates yet to be claimed.

A little more than 276,000 claims have been paid out so far, with $277 being the average claim returned to drivers.

Roads Minister John Graham encouraged motorists to visit the Service NSW website and claim what they are entitled to in relief.

“The $60 toll cap is a critical cost-of-living support for hundreds of thousands of drivers, many of whom really have no viable alternative than to use Sydney’s toll road network to get to work or get the kids where they need to be,” Graham said.

“When we designed the toll relief scheme we did so with those suburbs in mind where paying a toll is the price to get around and where in many cases public transport service is nowhere near the level of service enjoyed by other parts of Sydney.”

Western Sydney suburbs Blacktown, Baulkham Hills, Auburn, Merrylands and Marsden Park are now in the $1 million club, with claims totalling seven figures or more.

The average claim is $300 or more in 115 suburbs, including Parramatta, Lidcombe, Schofields, Westmead, Toongabbie, Merrylands and Auburn.

How to claim a toll rebate

NSW drivers who have spent more than $60 a week on toll trips since January 1, 2024, can claim the rebates via the Service NSW website.

The rebate is calculated and claimed each quarter. Claims are currently open for quarterly periods between January 1 and December 29, 2024.

Motorists can claim for 2024 toll spend until Monday, June 30, 2025.

Once your claim is approved, you'll receive the payment within 10 to 15 business days.

Customer Service and Digital Government Minister Jihad Dib said the rebates would “put money back into people’s pockets at a time when they need it most”.

“The claim process is quick and simple to follow on the Service NSW website but if you need that extra support to understand the process, team members at Service NSW Centres across the State are ready to help in person or via 13 77 88,” he said.
