Ford Motor Insiders Added US$2.31m Of Stock To Their Holdings

Multiple insiders secured a larger position in Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F) shares over the last 12 months. This is reassuring as this suggests that insiders have increased optimism about the company's prospects.

While we would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing, logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Ford Motor

The Chief Advanced Product Development & Technology Officer John Field made the biggest insider purchase in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for US$2.0m worth of shares at a price of US$11.05 each. That means that even when the share price was higher than US$10.49 (the recent price), an insider wanted to purchase shares. It's very possible they regret the purchase, but it's more likely they are bullish about the company. To us, it's very important to consider the price insiders pay for shares. Generally speaking, it catches our eye when insiders have purchased shares at above current prices, as it suggests they believed the shares were worth buying, even at a higher price.

In the last twelve months insiders purchased 206.79k shares for US$2.3m. But insiders sold 108.13k shares worth US$1.3m. In the last twelve months there was more buying than selling by Ford Motor insiders. Does Ford Motor Boast High Insider Ownership?

For a common shareholder, it is worth checking how many shares are held by company insiders. We usually like to see fairly high levels of insider ownership. It's great to see that Ford Motor insiders own 1.3% of the company, worth about US$534m. I like to see this level of insider ownership, because it increases the chances that management are thinking about the best interests of shareholders.

What Might The Insider Transactions At Ford Motor Tell Us?

The fact that there have been no Ford Motor insider transactions recently certainly doesn't bother us. On a brighter note, the transactions over the last year are encouraging.
