Insiders Of Anterix Reap Rewards After Their Investment Jumps Another US$857k

Anterix Inc. (NASDAQ:ATEX) insiders who purchased shares in the last 12 months were richly rewarded last week. The stock climbed by 34% resulting in a US$189m addition to the company’s market value. Put another way, the original US$4.10m acquisition is now worth US$4.96m.

While we would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Anterix

In the last twelve months, the biggest single purchase by an insider was when Independent Director Jeffrey Altman bought US$4.1m worth of shares at a price of US$33.99 per share. Although we like to see insider buying, we note that this large purchase was at significantly below the recent price of US$39.59. While it does suggest insiders consider the stock undervalued at lower prices, this transaction doesn't tell us much about what they think of current prices.

Does Anterix Boast High Insider Ownership?

I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. Insiders own 2.5% of Anterix shares, worth about US$19m. While this is a strong but not outstanding level of insider ownership, it's enough to indicate some alignment between management and smaller shareholders.
