Investment strategist 'not a fan of small caps'

"The reason why stock prices go up is based on earnings and anticipated earnings," said Bartels. "Almost 50% of the stocks in small caps don't have earnings. So would you rather own a company with earnings or a company without earnings? I'm pretty sure you want those earnings. And if you want those earnings, stay with the S&P 500 or the Nasdaq."
Bartels still sees most market growth coming from tech and tech-related stocks.
Speaking with Reuters' Lisa Bernhard, Bartels also discussed the minutes of the Federal Reserve's Sept. 17-18 policy meeting released Wednesday, which reflected the debate among policymakers over whether to kick off the central bank's easing cycle with a 50 or 25 basis-point rate cut.
