Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger said the company's disappointing financial guidance reflects some overall weakness in market demand. Intel is projecting June-quarter revenue of $12.5 billion to $13.5 billion with an adjusted profit of 10 cents a share.
There are a few things that International Monetary Fund Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva says she is concerned when it comes to the US debt. Georgieva says the US is in a "very privileged situation" given its strong economy, the strong dollar, and the flow of international cash into its businesses. However, she cautions that the country is still spending as if it still has a "youthful population that it had some decades ago, that has to be corrected." Georgieva notes the US, as a whole, is aging, though because its economy is still strong, it's still attracting young people from around the world. Another headwind? A trio of U.S. financial regulators have resumed work on a long-delayed rule-writing project to make executive compensation plans at financial firms more sensitive to risk. The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, Office of the Comptroller of the Currency and Federal Housing Finance Agency jointly proposed the rule, which would bar incentive-based plans that do not account for risks or allow pay to be clawed back or forfeited, the agencies said.
