It was love at first sight for Kyle Richards and ex-husband Guraish Aldjufrie.

Aldjufrie, who is of Indonesian, Arab and Dutch descent, first met Richards at a concert in the late ‘80s. Five years her senior, Aldjufrie was new to America and didn’t speak much English — but with the help of his friends, he and Richards spent most of the night singing along to Tina Turner and left with plans for their official first date.

Within a year, they were pregnant and married. Richards gave birth to their daughter Farrah Brittany Aldjufrie on Oct. 31, 1988. That same year, the pair quietly tied the knot in Los Angeles but kept the ceremony short and simple, sans a wedding reception.

When asked what drove her to Aldjufrie, The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star said on the Juicy Scoop with Heather McDonald podcast: “Well, he was shy and cute, and I liked the fact that he was that — and sweet and very much a gentleman.”

While their love story ended in 1992, the pair have remained close friends over the years. In the end, Richards said she wasn’t at a point in her life where she was ready to be someone’s wife.

“He loved me. We had a beautiful daughter together. I loved him. And I was just too young to be married,” she said during a RHOBH season 12 confessional.

Aldjufrie has since relocated to Bali, where he now resides full-time. The businessman has fostered a close relationship with his only daughter, whom he still regularly visits. While Aldjufrie prefers to live his life out of the spotlight, he does make special appearances on Farrah’s social media now and again.

He met Kyle at a concert

Aldjufrie first crossed paths with Richards at a Tina Turner concert in the late ‘80s.

During an appearance on the Juicy Scoop with Heather McDonald podcast, the RHOBH star admitted that she initially lied about her age and attempted to hide her braces from Aldjufrie, whom she thought was “shy and cute.”

"I lied and I said I was 19, and I had braces,” Richards recalled. Eventually, both of their friend groups morphed into one, and Aldjufrie summoned the confidence to ask Richards out.

"He speaks good English, but he didn't when we first met," she explained. "He had not lived here long when he had to get up the courage with his English to ask me out on the date.”

They share a daughter

Richards and Aldjufrie welcomed their only child together, Farrah Brittany Aldjufrie, on Oct. 31, 1988.

Farrah has spoken openly about her parents’ split and how lucky she feels to have divorced parents who have “always stayed extremely close, extremely good friends.”

Speaking with Bravo's The Daily Dish, Farrah described her dad as “the most shy, sweetest, nicest, cutest person in the world.”

Wishing her “caring, loving, and kind” father a happy birthday on Instagram, Farrah wrote, “Thank you for teaching me and guiding me through life. I'm so grateful for our amazing bond.”

In another post, Farrah praised Aldjufrie for being “the best dad and best friend a girl could ever have!”

He and Kyle were married for four years

The pair tied the knot in 1988 — the same year they became first-time parents. However, the pressure of being a young spouse and mother got to a then-19-year-old Richards, who initiated their divorce in 1992.

“I struggled with the being married part,” she said on the Juicy Scoop with Heather McDonald podcast, adding it’s “hard to be a wife at that age.”

Despite divorcing, Richards and Aldjufrie kept in close contact because of their daughter and their friendship. However, the latter made the separation harder, according to Richards.

"I eventually, I couldn't do it and I left, and I felt so guilty for so long," she explained. "I felt so bad. I was just too young to be married.”

He lives in Bali

Shortly after their divorce, Aldjufrie relocated to Thailand to focus on his real estate business. While Aldjufrie considers Bali his primary residence, he still makes frequent trips back to L.A. to visit Farrah.

“We’re extremely close,” Farrah told The Daily Dish of their tight father-daughter bond. "He comes and he stays for like a month or two at a time, two or three times a year. We just have a lunch or dinner three times or four times a week and hang out as much as we can while he's here."

She added that it isn’t unusual for her father to celebrate the major holidays, like Christmas and Thanksgiving, with her and her mother alongside Richard’s three daughters with husband Mauricio Umansky.

"It's funny 'cause I'm an only child at one house and then I have this huge family at this other house, so it's kind of the best of both worlds," she told the outlet. "There's no real separation or divide."

He works in real estate

Like his daughter, Aldjufrie has made a name for himself in the real estate world. He primarily does business in Thailand, though he’s also worked internationally. In fact, Farrah revealed that her father and stepfather “get along amazingly” and have even brokered a few deals together.

“They've done [real estate] deals together. My dad refers clients to Mauricio all the time,” Farrah told The Daily Dish.

He and Kyle remain on good terms

Even with Farrah grown and out of the house, Richards is still friendly with her ex-husband. In an interview with The Daily Dish, Farrah said it’s nice knowing her dad is “very, very close with my mom.” She shared that the pair remain “great, great, great friends.”

Most recently, Richards revealed she has held onto a Buddha statue that Aldjufrie gave her years ago, which she displays in her backyard.

“This Buddha I've had with me for my last four homes. And it was actually a gift from my ex-husband, Farrah’s dad,” Richards explained while giving Bravo Insider a tour of her backyard in 2022.

She added, “I’m sure she’s going to take it away from me one day, but until then, I’m going to enjoy it. I actually really do love having this out here. It makes it very peaceful.”
