U.S. stocks closed higher on Monday as investors bought the dip after stocks tumbled last week to record the worst week in more than a year while they hoped that the Federal Reserve's rate cut would help the economy rebound.
U.S. stocks ended sharply lower on Friday weighed down by a weaker-than-expected August jobs report while investors failed to assess the size of the Federal Reserve's planned rate cut this month.
The market looks to be calming down, at least according to one popular measure. The CBOE Volatility Index, also known as the VIX, is known as the fear gauge of the market because it measures how much prices are jumping around.
