Duke Energy Florida is reporting approximately 850,000 power outages, as of 8 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, after Hurricane Milton hit Florida as a Category 3 storm overnight. As customers can safely return home, the company expects outage numbers to continue to increase. Duke Energy Florida is conducting damage assessment as weather and road conditions allow and will soon begin what is anticipated to be a lengthy restoration process.
As Hurricane Milton approaches Florida's west coast, Duke Energy Florida is urging its customers to prepare for this catastrophic storm and a lengthy power restoration process that will result in extended outages.
Duke Energy crews have been all-hands-on-deck since the moment Helene exited the Carolinas. The company has successfully restored electric service to most customers in the upstate of South Carolina and the majority of those who can receive power in western North Carolina. While Duke Energy workers have made substantial progress overall, extremely difficult and targeted work lies ahead before the company can restore additional customers in the hardest-hit communities.
