Krispy Kreme stock slides on earnings miss

Yahoo Finance anchors break down the latest stock moves for Krispy Kreme.

AKIKO FUJITA: Well, let's take a look at one trending ticker. Shares of Krispy Kreme falling here, down nearly 14% as investors refuse to glaze over the company's recent earnings. The donut chain posted lower-than-expected profit in revenue. Organic sales grew 8.9%. But higher costs weighed on operating income, which fell nearly 18% in the quarter.

CEO Mike Tattersfield, though, speaking to Yahoo Finance earlier this morning, noting the one advantage he says the donut company still has.

MIKE TATTERSFIELD: The one advantage that we still always will have is we're an infrequent product and it's gifted a lot. So when the seasonality comes in like an October for a Halloween or something in the holidays as well, it is clearly where you see sometimes gifting is like a box of Krispy Kreme.

AKIKO FUJITA: By the way, we-- I've already started eating my donuts, like half of it's left. Investors glazing over, right? This is a Brian Cheung line. We should point out, he was talking about-- Mike was just talking about the holidays, the seasonality. They started the pumpkin spice season on August 8.

BRIAN CHEUNG: They were early to the game, yeah. I'm sorry. I'm a little soggy because I didn't realize--

AKIKO FUJITA: Is that cheese inside there?

BRIAN CHEUNG: --there's filling inside this. This is crazy.

AKIKO FUJITA: Is that pumpkin spice?

BRIAN CHEUNG: No, it's not. But you know what's really interesting? Is that on the call, they said that they see inflation moderating significantly next year. So they're not the Federal Reserve but that's an interesting call in there.

AKIKO FUJITA: Well, we're--
