Achaogen (AKAO), a late-stage biopharmaceutical company, develops and commercializes antibacterial treatments for MDR (multidrug-resistant) gram-negative infections. Its lead product candidate, plazomicin, targets serious bacterial infections due to MDR Enterobacteriaceae, including carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae, which was identified as a “nightmare bacteria” by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in 2013.
