Anna Paquin isn't going to get in the way of her kids following in her footsteps.

In this week's issue of PEOPLE, the actress, 41, chatted about parenting her fraternal twins Charlie and Poppy, 11, with husband and True Blood costar Stephen Moyer, 54, revealing that she's aiming to make sure her kids have a relatively social media-free childhood.

"Luckily, it's not a thing with them yet," Paquin tells PEOPLE, who is next starring in the drama A Bit of Light (in theaters April 5), which was directed by Moyer. "They're only 11. But I think it's important to keep them as protected as possible and for them to get to be young without having every single moment of their lives documented."

While they aren't interested in acting, Paquin says she wouldn't get in her kids' way if they did.

"If opportunities came along to work with incredible people, would I say no on their behalf? Probably not. Look what I got to do — the people I've met along the way have been extraordinary," she says.

The mom of two joined Hollywood as a child actor, winning the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in 1994 for The Piano when she was 11.

In 2018, Paquin opened up about shielding her twins from the public eye in an interview with TODAY Parents.

“Everyone chooses what works for their family. There are aspects of one’s private life that are fun and cute and not too revealing,” she told the outlet. “I’ve always been very private. I’m not as neurotic about it as I was when I was younger. I don’t want people to know too much about my real, inner private life.”

She continued, “That’s part of having been a teenager and feeling constantly, brutally self-conscious and not wanting anyone to stare at me but having a job where that was part of it.”

People “won’t find any pictures of my children," Paquin went on, explaining it was a choice she and Moyer “specifically” made for them.

“I want the right to say that they’re not fair game,” the mom of two said, joking, “Don’t mess with my cubs.”
