Yahoo Finance Cynthia Nixon on Chris Noth's scenes being cut from And Just Like That
Fans of the new Sex And The City spin-off series, And Just Like That, will likely have spotted that as the series progresses, the episode times have gotten shorter – and there's been plenty of speculation that this is down to the producers axing scenes starring 'Mr Big' (a character played by actor Chris Noth, who was recently accused by multiple women of alleged sexual assault).
Speaking out about the last-minute changes for the first time, Cynthia Nixon, who plays Miranda Hobbes, has said it was "lucky" the show bosses had enough time to rework the programme after the accusations against Noth broke.
The first alleged victim spoke out in December after the show's premiere episode, in which Noth's character was killed off. However, Mr Big was due to make reappearances through flashbacks, particularly in the finale.
"I think we were very lucky that those changes were able to be made," Cynthia remarked during an interview with Entertainment Tonight. "And I think we are very proud of our show."
She continued, "We just wanted, you know, people to not be distracted or already feel, certainly with the death of Willie Garson [who played Stanford Blatch], [which is] such a painful thing and already [something] viewers had to contend with. We didn’t want them to be distracted from the fictional characters."
After the allegations against Noth hit headlines, Cynthia along with her two fellow leading cast mates – Sarah Jessica Parker (who plays Carrie Bradshaw) and Kristin Davis (Charlotte York Goldenblatt) – posted a message on Instagram Stories in solidarity with the women accusing Noth of sexual assault.
"We are deeply saddened to hear the allegations against Chris Noth," it read. "We support the women who have come forward and their painful experiences. We know it must be a very difficult thing to do and we commend them for it – Cynthia Nixon, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kristin Davis."
Noth has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing, having issued a statement to the press saying: "The accusations against me made by individuals I met years, even decades, ago are categorically false. These stories could’ve been from 30 years ago or 30 days ago — no always means no — that is a line I did not cross.
"The encounters were consensual. It’s difficult not to question the timing of these stories coming out. I don’t know for certain why they are surfacing now, but I do know this: I did not assault these women."
