Dermot Mulroney and his wife, Prima Apollinaare, connect over their love for melodies.

While the actor may be known for his roles in My Best Friend's Wedding and August: Osage County, he shares his lesser-known passion with his wife of over 15 years: music. Mulroney is a professional cellist, and Apollinaare is a singer-songwriter.

After meeting, Apollinaare gave birth to their first daughter, Mabel Ray Mulroney, in 2008 while they were still dating. Mulroney and Apollinaare welcomed their second daughter, Sally Mulroney, shortly after.

The Anyone But You actor opened up on The Rosie Show in 2012 about the timing of his second marriage, which happened after his divorce from actress Catherine Keener in 2007.

"A lot of it doesn't make sense, but you can't deny your heart," he said.

She was born and raised in Italy

Apollinaare is 75 percent Italian, according to a 2023 interview with the music label Lost In The Manor. The aspiring artist also revealed that she was born and raised in Italy.

While Apollinaare hasn't shared much about her childhood, she has said that music was a priority from the start.

"[I] got into music since I was born," the songstress told the label. "My mom is a singer. My dad played Trumpet and piano."

She's a singer

Since 2017, Apollinaare has been releasing songs as a solo artist. She debuted the music video for her first single, "Stand Up for Love," on her YouTube channel in December of that year.

The singer-songwriter has since released one album and two EPs — Stand Up for Love, Songs and Alignment — plus several singles, per her Spotify.

She told Lost In The Manor that her track, "High and Low," is an indie pop song about getting back on your feet after you've been knocked down. "I just wanted to let out and shout out that no matter what I'll always come back with a bang," Apollinaare said.

Mulroney is also an accomplished musician. In 2023, he opened up to Cigar & Spirits about being a professional cellist and having played in orchestras for several films, including Planet of the Apes and some of the Mission Impossible franchise.

She shares two kids with Mulroney

While Mulroney and Apollinaare have time-consuming gigs, there's one job they both prioritize: being parents to their daughters Mabel and Sally. Mulroney also has a son, Clyde Keener Mulroney, from his first marriage.

In 2023, the Scream actor told The Wall Street Journal that he and Apollinaare are raising their kids in Los Angeles, while Clyde lives just across town.

Despite their father's fame and mother's career in music, neither Mabel nor Sally seem interested in a creative career just yet.

"I try to keep arts in front of them, whether it's music or even just museum trips," the actor told The Hollywood News in 2016. "I don’t expect anything of them – it’s hard enough for everyone just to get their homework done at night. Let’s just get them through grade school, and then see."

She changed her name

When she met and married the New Girl actor, Apollinaare's name was Tharita Cutulle. In January 2015, though, TMZ reported that she filed paperwork to change her name to Prima Apollinaare.

She hasn't shared the reason behind the change, but her Instagram bio lists Apollinaare as her name, and Mulroney has referred to her as Prima, including in his interview with The Wall Street Journal and during a 2018 video with WIRED.

She has worked with Mulroney

Though Apollinaare's preferred medium is music, she has worked on a few film projects with her husband. In 2010, she was listed as one of Mulroney's producing partners for a biopic he was set to direct, per the Associated Press (via The Hollywood Reporter).

According to the online music publication EARMILK, the singer also acted alongside her husband in the 2023 Western drama The Warrant: Breaker's Law.

Mulroney told the New York Post that same year that Apollinaare was not a fan of his horror movies, like Scream IV.

“I don’t think she’ll probably even see this movie because I know what her tolerance is,” he said. “She can’t even look at half of the posters.”

She jokes with Mulroney about his name

Mulroney's unique first name is often mispronounced or misspelled — something the married couple have joked about. In June 2023, the actor shared a picture on Instagram of a receipt from a restaurant that had listed his name as "Deremick."

He captioned the post: "well huh…that’s a new one 😂." Apollinaare commented in agreement and said, "omg that’s a new one."

She shares three dogs with Mulroney

In addition to raising their two girls, Mulroney and Apollinaare are the proud pet parents of three dogs: Lucy Loo, Luna and Posie.

While the singer-songwriter hasn't posted pictures of the family's pets on her Instagram, her husband enjoys sharing photos of the dogs.

"welcome Lucy Loo to our pack!" he captioned an Instagram post announcing their latest pup in August 2023. "Fostered LL for 5 minutes and immediately adopted her."
