The COVID pandemic has made it clear that almost any Australian can do their job from home if they desire and it has led many to rethink work.

In fact, Fiverr research revealed Aussies could be earning an extra $41,000 a year through selling their untapped skills online - for a time commitment of just 15 hours a week.

Patrick Dhital and Lucas Vitale are SEO specialists on Fiverr, and they have found freelancing extremely lucrative.

“As business owners, the hardest concept of running a successful business is having a consistent stream of leads,” they told Yahoo Finance.

“Working on freelancing websites has given us the time to focus more on quality deliverables instead of marketing campaigns to drive more leads.

“In the end, whether you're a freelancer or a business, providing the services that clients want is what makes you successful, and freelancing is a perfect way to hone down on this skill.”

The same goes for Jacqueline Miholos, who is a digital marketing specialist and used her skills to grow her business.

“Freelancing has given me the pathway to develop my skills and grow my copywriting and marketing business internationally, while affording me the time to pursue other creative opportunities simultaneously,” she said.

The Fiverr research found that many of the skills businesses were looking for were in the digital space, which saw huge growth last year.

Here are the top 10 in-demand skills on Fiverr:

  1. Youtube monetisation experts - 120 per cent growth

  2. Google Analytics experts - 94 per cent growth

  3. SEO services for Shopify - 93 per cent growth

  4. vTubers - 88 per cent growth

  5. Website content creators - 83 per cent growth

  6. Social media content - 63 per cent growth

  7. Australian voice over talent - 49 per cent growth

  8. Social media management - 44 per cent growth

  9. Video editors - 39 per cent growth

  10. Instagram Influencer marketing - 16 per cent growth

Peggy de Lange, Fiverr’s VP of International Expansion, told Yahoo Finance that in times of economic stress, the freelancer economy expands, which has brought new opportunities.

“COVID has made it apparent that white-collar jobs can be done anytime, any place, by anyone with access to a laptop,” she said.

“No longer are workers tied to their office desks and, in a tight labour market, the opportunity to design your dream career is in reach.”
