General manager of Atlanta airport to retire

General manager of world's busiest airport in Atlanta says he'll retire in early January

ATLANTA (AP) -- The general manager of the world's busiest airport in Atlanta has announced plans to retire early next year.

A spokesman for Mayor Kasim Reed said Monday that Louis Miller is planning to retire on Jan. 3. Miller has worked as general manager of Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport since Sept. 27, 2010 and oversaw the opening of the Maynard H. Jackson International Terminal.

Officials say Deputy General Manager Miguel Southwell will be the interim chief.

Reed says Miller has helped establish the airport as a regional economic engine.

Miller has worked in the aviation industry for 37 years and is planning to retire in his hometown of Salt Lake City, Utah.

Miller has worked at the Tampa International airport, and was executive director of the Salt Lake City Department of Airports.
