HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) _ The Hartford Financial Services Group Inc. (HIG) on Thursday reported third-quarter profit of $432 million.

On a per-share basis, the Hartford, Connecticut-based company said it had profit of $1.19. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring gains and to account for discontinued operations, were $1.15 per share.

The results beat Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of seven analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $1.04 per share.

The insurance and financial services company posted revenue of $4.84 billion in the period. Its adjusted revenue was $4.8 billion.

The Hartford shares have dropped 19 percent since the beginning of the year, while the Standard & Poor's 500 index has climbed 1 percent. In the final minutes of trading on Thursday, shares hit $45.58, a decrease of 17 percent in the last 12 months.
