Kansas City Southern: 3Q Earnings Snapshot

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) _ Kansas City Southern (KSU) on Friday reported third-quarter profit of $173.6 million.

On a per-share basis, the Kansas City, Missouri-based company said it had net income of $1.70. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring gains, were $1.57 per share.

The results missed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of nine analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $1.58 per share.

The railroad company posted revenue of $699 million in the period, which also did not meet Street forecasts. Six analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $707.1 million.

Kansas City Southern shares have dropped slightly more than 2 percent since the beginning of the year, while the Standard & Poor's 500 index has risen nearly 4 percent. The stock has dropped slightly in the last 12 months.
