Marks and Spencer site occupancy options explored

Aberdeen councillors are being told that options will be explored for temporary occupation of a Marks and Spencer department store earmarked for closure by the retailer.

A report from officials on the local authority said they were actively working to aid the marketing of the St Nicholas branch, which is expected to close next year.

M&S announced earlier this year that it was to shut the branch it opened in the 1960s.

It will focus on expanding its store at Union Square.

The current store is expected to close in the second half of next year.

The report said that in similar situations elsewhere, where M&S had closed a branch without a new buyer in place, it had supported temporary occupation by community or charity tenants.
