Two million members for Air New Zealand’s Airpoints programme

New Zealand’s most rewarding loyalty programme - Air New Zealand’s Airpoints, has today celebrated a major milestone of welcoming its two millionth member.

The Airpoints programme has been popular with New Zealanders since it was first introduced in 1989 and now has members in more than 160 countries across the globe.

Air New Zealand’s Head of Customer Loyalty Mark Street says Airpoints members have enjoyed more than 750,000 flights over the past year paid for with their Airpoints Dollars - this is enough customers to fill more than 2,400 Boeing 787-9 aircraft.

"The Airpoints programme is unique in that members earn dollars that are easy to understand and simple to use compared to every other major global airline’s points based currency."

The Airpoints programme has grown significantly over the past three years as the airline has focused on rewarding travellers based on their spend with the airline and also significantly increasing ways members can earn and spend their Airpoints Dollars.

"This past year has been very exciting for us with a dozen new retail, banking and travel partners such as Audi, Westpac and Bayleys joining the Airpoints family, as well as September’s launch of Airpoints for Business which rewards New Zealand businesses with bonus Airpoints Dollars when their employees fly," says Mr Street.

Members can also now shop online and earn Airpoints Dollars at more than 100 New Zealand and international retailers at the Airpoints Mall, redeem their Airpoints Dollars on more than 700 products at the online Airpoints redemption store and can even use them inflight to purchase food and drink.

The two millionth person to sign up to the programme was a customer from Hamilton. To mark the occasion she and a guest will experience flying in the airline’s Boeing 787 flight simulator, before heading to Tokyo on the same aircraft for an unforgettable five night trip.
