Global brewers are set to sell more beer this year after several quarters of declines, helped by factors from sports and slower inflation to weather patterns and a fading boycott. Heineken, the world's No. 2 brewer, already reported its first quarterly volume growth in over a year in the three months to end-March. Rival Carlsberg also reported higher volumes after several quarters of decline.
The Bud Light boycott is becoming less of a problem for the world’s largest brewer. Anheuser-Busch InBev said beer volumes in North America fell 9.9% in the first quarter compared to the same period in 2023, an improvement on the 17% and 15% slumps in the two most recent quarters. It was in sales to retailers in the U.S., down 13.7%, where the damage was done, and it was a fall in demand for its Bud Light beer that was primarily behind that.
