A plan to boost pay for Uber and Lyft drivers in Minnesota that lawmakers believe would prevent the companies from leaving the market advanced in the state Legislature on Sunday, hours before the deadline for lawmakers to pass bills before they adjourn. The plan that gained approval in the House was crafted by Democrats to replace a minimum pay measure the Minneapolis City Council passed that prompted Uber and Lyft to threaten to leave the state's biggest city. The agreement announced Saturday after a day of negotiations would set a minimum pay rate at $1.28 per mile and 31 cents per minute.
Minnesota government officials have struck a deal with rideshare companies Uber and Lyft to set minimum wage standards for drivers, lawmakers announced Saturday night.
Uber Technologies is introducing a shuttle service in the U.S. and widening a delivery tie-up with membership-only retailer Costco as part of a series of initiatives unveiled on Wednesday to attract price-conscious consumers amid competition from rival Lyft . The initiatives were unveiled at the company's GO-GET annual event for new products and are meant to maintain growth at the ride-share and delivery giant after a strong 2023 that saw it reporting its first-ever annual profit. The San Francisco, California-based company said it will allow Uber Shuttle users to reserve up to five seats in advance on buses operating in high-traffic areas like airports, concerts, and sports events.
