STORY: Argentina beat the Netherlands 4-3 in a penalty shootout to keep Lionel Messi's World Cup dream alive after the Dutch had snatched a 2-2 draw from the jaws of defeat in an extraordinary quarter-final.

Argentinian fans in Qatar were ecstatic after the turnaround in extra time, and in Buenos Aires supporters hugged each other and cheered after the victory.

Argentina will now face Croatia in the semi-finals match, a European team that also beat Brazil on penalties.
