Tesla is looking to make a move above a key resistance level after gaining more than 15% this week following first-quarter earnings. Drew Baglino, who served as senior vice president of powertrain and energy at Tesla, sold 1.14 million TSLA shares for around $181.5 million, according to SEC filings Thursday. Baglino announced on April 15 via a post on X, formerly Twitter, that he had decided to leave Tesla.

The major indexes (^DJI,^GSPC, ^IXIC) opened higher on Friday morning thanks to strong results from Alphabet (GOOG, GOOGL) and Microsoft (MSFT). Investors seemingly were able to shrug off the latest inflation print. The core Personal Consumption Expenditures price index rose 2.8% in March, slightly more than the 2.7% economists had been expecting. It rose 0.3% from February, which was in line with estimates. U.S. Federal Reserve policymakers sifting through the latest inflation data will find little to fuel a sense of urgency to cut interest rates, but also nothing to rule out the likelihood of rate reductions starting later this year. That was the view from financial markets and analysts following a government report on Friday that showed inflation rose last month largely in line with economist expectations, and with what Fed officials themselves had said they anticipated. Core PCE, a measure of underlying inflation, came in at 2.8%, the same as February.

Several London Underground stations are closed due to workers striking while two Tube lines were halted because of a casualty on the track. Transport for London said three stations were closed on the network at midday on Friday due to the Transport Salaried Staffs' Association action. The union said the action was likely to cause Tube stations to close at the last minute, including into Saturday morning, but Transport for London said there will not be significant disruption.
