Fatalities after attack on Rohingya refugee camp

Several people have been killed in an attack at a Rohingya camp in Bangladesh's Cox's Bazar on Friday (October 22), according to police officials.

It's the latest incident of violence in the world's largest refugee settlement.

A gang armed with guns attacked a religious school before dawn in Cox's Bazar's Ukhiya area.

Teachers, volunteers and students were among the dead, according to a senior member of the police.

He added that one Rohingya man with weapons and ammunition had been taken into custody.

More than a million Rohingya live in a cluster of refugee camps in southern Bangladesh.

Most had fled neighboring Myanmar during a military crackdown there in 2007.

Residents say the sprawling settlements have become increasingly violent, with armed gangs vying for power, kidnapping critics and warning women against breaking conservative Islamic norms.
