Indonesia holds mass prayer after soccer crush

STORY: The victims were mostly fans of the local Arema FC team in Malang.

In one of the world's worst stadium disasters, hundreds of spectators were crushed as they tried to flee the overpacked stadium in Malang, East Java on Saturday, after police fired tear gas to disperse agitated fans of the losing home team, Arema FC, who had poured onto the pitch.

Participants of the memorial prayed and lit candles for the dead and the injured in the yard of the Kanjuruhan stadium. One survivor said that the the spectators' treatment by the authorities was "anarchic".
