National Taco Day: Where to find the best deals

Food reporter Brooke DiPalma outlines where to find the best deals on National Taco Day, including Moe's Southwest Grill.

SEANA SMITH: It's National Taco Day, and food chains are serving up some deals. Brooke DiPalma is here with the details. Brooke, tell us where can we get some free food.

BROOKE DIPALMA: That's right, Seana. You can get free food in lots of places. This hallmark holiday is celebrated each year on October 4. This year, of course, consumers stretch a bit thin as inflation takes a toll on the price of groceries and fast food. But of course, food giants stepping in here, really looking to jump on the annual event and capitalize on those consumers' cravings with tons of deal and also looking to keep them with their loyalty programs.

And one of those deals out is with Moe's Southwest Grill. Today, Moe's reward members can get $5 off any meal kit. Earlier today, I chatted with Moe's Grill chief brand officer Torey Bartlett about the deal.

TORY BARTLETT: We want to use this as a reward program for our current rewards members. And it's just a great opportunity [INAUDIBLE] as we've developed these meal kits, we want to get these in the hands of our consumers and let them really experience something really cool for their family on a Taco Tuesday.

Our loyalty membership over the last couple of years has grown immensely. And we want to continue to leverage that. And as-- through Moe's, there's just so many great ways to enjoy Moe's either through catering or pickup and first party. So our Moe's rewards member get the best benefit through that.

BROOKE DIPALMA: And of course, Tory also said that the brand is not immune to that inflation that's taking a toll on consumers, but really trying to be mindful of what they feel is an important value proposition, like being a rewards member. And Moe's primary audience, as he said there, families. So they also include free chips and salsa, despite it being National Taco Day every day.

But of course, Moe's not alone in celebrating this national holiday. We have Jack in the Box bringing back those monster tacos through the end of the month. Del Taco using this as an opportunity to launch Tacoberfest. Let me say that again-- Tacoberfest. There, reward members will get points on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Lots of deals to sit through here. But of course, lots of ways to celebrate National Taco Day.

But I never had one until I came to college because I was like-- we don't have-- the demographics in the UK, I was like-- I just didn't have that exposure to it. But a hard taco, good and spicy with the ground beef, the steak.
