Unilever CEO Alan Jope to be replaced by Hein Schumacher

Yahoo Finance Live anchors discuss reports that Unilever CEO Alan Jope will be replaced by Hein Schumacher on July 1.

JULIE HYMAN: And finally, Unilever is shaking up its leadership. Announcing that current CEO Alan Jope will be replaced by Hein Schumacher. He's the current CEO of a Netherlands-based dairy and nutrition cooperative. That change is gonna take effect on July 1. And Sozz, I know you've covered this very closely.

And, you know, this is amidst some activist pressure on Unilever, right?

BRIAN SOZZI: Yeah, we talked to Alan Jope at the World Economic Forum, Julie. I think he's handing this incoming CEO a real strong playbook of what to do. Now, they just had an Investor Day a couple months ago. They laid out really what appears to be a strong, a more focused plan, which is good.

But falling on the new CEO's shoulders, does this company have to be split up? Does he have to split food away from consumer products? And I think that's going to have to be a decision he's going to have to make probably within the first year of his tenure.

BRAD SMITH: And what type of pricing changes, given the conversation we were just having a few moments ago regarding some of the volume declines as prices have needed to factor in some of the more costly inputs that businesses, like a Unilever, like many of the CPG companies, have to also just pass on to the consumer. What is the pricing strategy that an incoming CEO will also consider or implement?

JULIE HYMAN: Yeah, I also really wonder, Unilever's really coupled itself with stakeholder capitalism as a B Corporation.
